What Happens During My Child’s Initial Dental Exam?
Each exam will start with an initial assessment of your child’s teeth and gums, followed by a gentle cleaning to remove any tartar and plaque. Dental X-rays may also be taken to enable our dentist to see the areas of teeth located directly below the gum line. In addition, we use advanced technology and techniques to reduce the amount of ionizing radiation needed to produce X-ray images.
At the end of the exam, your child will receive detailed recommendations for dental care to keep their teeth healthy. They will also receive tips on the proper ways to brush and floss, as well as how many times they’ll need to come in for regular check-ups.
The Benefits of Baton Rouge Pediatric Dentistry
- Advanced training – Pediatric dentists are required to receive more formal and specialized training than other dentists. They spend an extra two to three years in educational courses after completing their four years of dental schooling. This time is spent focusing on the psychology of a child’s growth and development, starting from infancy and going up to the teen years.
- Less fear & anxiety – Because pediatric dentists work with kids on a regular basis, they understand and are more aware of the common worries children face when going to the dentist. As such, they know what to do to make the dental experience not only relaxing, but fun for your child!
- Less dental complications – Children tend to get more cavities and miss more school from toothaches. Due to this, our pediatric dentist takes the time to sit with your child and teach them about good oral hygiene habits.
